If you love live music and a bit of craic, Whelans is the place to go. If you are new to Dublin and trying to sort out the who pub scene, start at Whelans first. You will not regret it.
Decent place for the live music (whose actual quality and entertainment value is a crap shoot). However, not greatly recommended if you’re a petite 5′2″ woman unless you really like being elbowed in the face and shoved around by gigantic Irish men once the DJ music gets going. Oh, and also not good if you don’t like being harassed by random guys who are A) creepy and desperate and/or B) drunk out of their minds.
